1,700 cameras installed at 259 locations; new system can detect nine types of traffic violations
Ludhiana, 05 May (H.S.): In a major push towards modernising Punjab Police, Ludhiana has become the third city in the state after Jalandhar and Mohali to implement the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS).
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav inaugurated the state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in Ludhiana on Tuesday.
Addressing officials, the DGP said the project marks a significant step toward preventive and technology-driven policing. Under the ICCC initiative, around 1,700 high-resolution cameras have been installed at 259 locations across the city to strengthen surveillance and improve public safety.
The newly launched ITMS has been deployed at 46 major locations and is capable of detecting up to nine different traffic violations. These include red light jumping, stop line violations, driving without a helmet, pillion rider without a helmet, triple riding, overspeeding, zebra crossing violations, wrong-side driving, and illegal parking.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said the ICCC has brought multiple police units under one roof, including Traffic Police, Police Control Room (PCR), Safe City, and Wireless units. He added that this integration has improved coordination among departments and significantly reduced PCR response time from 15 minutes to just 7 to 8 minutes.
During his ground-level visit, the DGP also held a review meeting with field officers and stressed the need for quick and citizen-friendly resolution of public complaints. To boost morale among police personnel, Gaurav Yadav also participated in a 'Bada Khana' at Police Lines, where he shared a meal with over 550 police personnel from different ranks. He also honoured high-performing officers and staff members for their outstanding work and encouraged them to continue serving the public with dedication. Senior police officials from Ludhiana, SBS Nagar and Khanna were also present during the event.
