Mortal remains of former Finance minister Arun Jaitley cremated with full state honour

New Delhi, Aug. 25 (HS): Former Union Finance minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley on Sunday was cremated with full state honour atNew Delhi's Nigambodh Ghat.

The late BJP leader's son Rohan Jaitley performed his last rites ceremony today at 2:30 pm who passed away on Saturday due to a prolonged illness at the All India Institute of Medical sciences (AIIMS).

Family member of the veteran BJP leader including the party's top brass such as L.K.Advani, Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Smriti Irani were present at the cremation ground.


Several opposition leaders in attendance of the cremation ceremony such as Delhi Chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia, BJP stalwart L.K. Advani, Bihar Chief minister and Janata Dal United (JDU) chief Nitish Kumar, BJP leader Gautan Gambhir, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Karnataka CM B.S. Yediyurappa, former Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, Defence minister Rajnath Singh, Loktantrik Janata Party(LJP) Leader Sharad Yadav.

Earlier, Manipur Governor Najma Heptullah, Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Prakash Javadekar, Anurag Thakur paid their last respects to Arun Jaitley at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi's Deen Dayal Upadhayay Marg from his KailashColony residence.

BJP workers queued in large numbers outside the party's headquarters to pay their last tributes to thelate leader.

Earlier on Saturday, the Himachal Preadesh and Uttarakhand governments had announced a two-day state mourning and a day's state morning respectively over the demise of the late Arun Jaitley.

On Saturday, BJP president Amit Shah said Jaitley was a crusader against corruption and credited him for the successful implementation of Goods and Services Tax(GST) and Demonetisation and taking the Jan Dhan Yojana to the masses.

It is noteworthy that, on Saturday, during his Bahrain visit, PM Modi spoke about the loss of his close friend Arun Jaitley which left a big void in his life as well as in BJP ranks.
