MSSRF gets new executive director
Chennai, July 14 (HS) Dr. K.S. Murali, a research and development expert has joined M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) as its new executive director on Tuesday.
Murali has three decades of experience in working on various issues related to forest, agriculture, water, climate change adaptation and human development.
Dr. Murali was earlier working with International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the United Nations, The Energy and Resources Institute, Indian Institute of Science and French Institute at Pondicherry across Asian and African countries.
He has a doctorate in ecology and has over 130 articles in national and international journals, books and popular articles on topics of climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, forest management, coastal and marine ecosystem, gender and social equity.
Murali said MSSRF is an esteemed institution in the country with diverse activities in research and policy aimed at an evergreen revolution.
"I am motivated to use my diverse experience and expertise including at the UN and IDRC to take the legacy forward on resource conservation, behavior change, natural resource management, climate change adaptation and gender concerns," he said.
MSSRF chairman Dr. Madhura Swaminathan welcoming Dr. Murali said the new executive director has a rich experience in international development management and scientific expertise. MSSRF founder Professor M.S. Swaminathan also spoke.
MSSRF was established in 1988 and is a non-profit research institution based in Chennai. It believes that science is for sustainable development and it must be pro-poor, pro-nature, pro-women.
