New Delhi, 04 April (H.S.):
Congress President and Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge has written to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, reiterating the demand for an all-party meeting to deliberate on implementation modalities and roadmap for the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam-2023.
The letter bears signatures from over 10 opposition MPs, including AAP MP Sanjay Singh and SP MP Ramgopal Yadav.
Kharge noted in the letter that he had urged Rijiju on March 16, 2026, to convene a Prime Minister-chaired all-party meeting at the earliest. As the government plans another amendment to the constitutional measure passed in September 2023, opposition parties demand discussions on the proposal.
To enhance productivity, Kharge advised the government to issue a preliminary note outlining the precise proposals. He suggested holding the meeting on April 29, post the current phase of assembly elections.
Previously, on March 16, Rijiju had written to Kharge, hailing the Act as a landmark for 33% women's reservation in Lok Sabha and state assemblies, stressing national consensus for rollout and inviting detailed dialogue with Congress.
Responding, Kharge argued the law passed without consensus in September 2023, and after 30 months, modalities warrant a PM-led all-party consultation involving all opposition groups.
