New Delhi, 01 February (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the eagerly anticipated terminal building at Halwara Airport today, describing the occasion as a moment of immense joy for the people of Punjab, especially Ludhiana and surrounding areas.
This virtual inauguration-conducted during PM Modi's Punjab visit-marks culmination of seven-year journey plagued by funding delays and construction hurdles. Developed jointly by Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Punjab Government at ₹54.67 crore cost, the 2,000 sqm terminal boasts capacity for 300 peak-hour passengers and 2 lakh annual travelers.
PM Modi emphasized Ludhiana's stature as vital industrial and commercial hub in Northern India, renowned for dynamic entrepreneurial spirit. Our Government is working tirelessly to improve air connectivity for this city, reflecting in the ongoing works for a modern airport, he affirmed.
Located about 35 km from the district headquarters in Aitiana village of Raikot subdivision, Halwara addresses a long-standing demand of Ludhiana's business community, which has long relied on the distant airports at Amritsar and Chandigarh.
