Six Rehab Centre Staff Arrested in Dhubri for Forcing Inmates to Consume Beef; Five Escape

Dhubri (Assam), 26 April (HS): Six staff members of a de-addiction centre in Gauripur under Dhubri district have been arrested last night following serious allegations of physical and mental abuse of inmates, police said on Saturday.

According to reports, the authorities of Nibaran Rehab Centre allegedly forced inmates to consume beef against their will and subjected them to physical assault and psychological harassment under the guise of treatment.

Unable to endure the alleged torture, five inmates reportedly escaped from the rehabilitation centre, bringing the matter to light.

Based on a complaint lodged by the victims, Gauripur Police launched an investigation and arrested six employees of the centre. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway, officials added.------------
