Washington , 30 January (H.S.): The United States' central bank, the Federal Reserve, is poised to welcome a new chair imminently.
President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he has identified a successor to Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and will formally reveal the nominee on Friday morning.
Speaking at the premiere of the film Melania about First Lady Melania Trump, he noted the search spanned five months, commencing in September with an initial pool of 11 candidates comprising former and current Fed officials, economists, and Wall Street investment professionals.
According to a CNBC report, the final shortlist of four reportedly includes former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh, National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, incumbent Fed Governor Christopher Waller, and BlackRock's Chief Investment Officer for Fixed Income Rick Rieder.
Trump affirmed, I will announce the name of the Fed Chair tomorrow morning. When pressed on whether he had definitively settled on one individual, he replied unequivocally, Yes, I have. Sources indicate Trump may nominate Kevin Warsh, who was reportedly sighted at the White House on Thursday.
White House spokesperson Kush Desai stated, President Trump will make his announcement regarding his preference for the Federal Reserve at the appropriate time. Discussing it prematurely would be a waste of time.
