Lucknow,
08 May (HS): A review meeting was held on Friday in the Gandhi Auditorium of
Jan Bhavan under the chairmanship of the Governor of Uttar Pradesh and Chancellor
of State Universities, Anandiben Patel, with the principals of funded and
government colleges affiliated with Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut.
In the meeting, the principals of various colleges gave presentations regarding
the academic activities, achievements, innovations and development work of
their respective institutions.
In
the meeting, the Governor gave several important instructions to further
strengthen the quality of higher education, connect students with practical and
research-based education and lead the colleges towards excellence. The Governor directed the university
administration to actively support colleges in joining the One Nation One
Subscription scheme, so that more students and teachers can benefit from
it. One Nation One Subscription is a significant initiative of the
Government of India, providing students, researchers, and teachers with easy
and free access to world-class research journals, and educational materials.
This will provide quality study materials, especially to students in smaller
towns and under-resourced colleges, and will provide a new impetus to research
and innovation.
She
directed that students be encouraged to visit the library regularly and study
books. Students should research and gather information about the great men,
historical sites, or topics they read about, and, if possible, visit those
places. After the visit, students should write about their experiences, and
teachers should also sit with students to discuss those topics. The best
discussions and outstanding articles should be awarded at the convocation.
The
Governor stated that studying manuscripts and ancient books available in
university and college libraries is extremely beneficial for students. She
directed that rare books and manuscripts available in libraries be properly
displayed so that students can understand Indian knowledge tradition, culture,
history, and ancient science. Studying manuscripts will develop a research
aptitude among students and provide them with an opportunity to learn and
understand Indian heritage.
She
directed that, in addition to local excursions, educational trips to other
states and, as needed, other countries be organized for students. She urged
students to make all the arrangements for these trips themselves, developing
leadership, management skills, and a sense of responsibility. Visiting India's
historical and cultural sites will broaden students' knowledge and perspectives.
Following the excursions, competitions should be held based on the experiences
and learnings gained by students, and a book should be compiled.
The
Governor said that it is essential to provide students not only with
curriculum-based education, but also with practical knowledge that is relevant
to life. Students should also learn how everyday items, such as clothing, are
made and their basic processes. This will connect students with society, labor,
and the production system, and will develop sensitivity and practical
understanding.
She
directed that various competitions be held at the district level in all
colleges, and that further competitions be held among the winners, and the best
talents be honored at the convocation. Competitions should also be held among
principals and teachers, and teachers who have made significant contributions
to college development, excellent research, book writing, publications, and
innovative projects should also be honored. A culture of discussion,
presentation, and dialogue on various projects and innovations should be
developed.
Drawing
inspiration from the Miyawaki Forest developed at Jan Bhavan, the
Governor directed all colleges to launch tree-planting campaigns. She urged the
planting of trees that, in addition to bearing fruit, also provide shade and
contribute to environmental protection. She also urged all principals to
observe the innovations implemented at Jan Bhavan. She directed that in
colleges facing a shortage of teachers, university faculty should provide
online classes. Additionally, college students should be given the opportunity
to conduct practical work at the university, so they can gain practical
knowledge. She instructed departmental ministers, vice-chancellors, registrars,
finance controllers, and education department officials to regularly visit
colleges and ensure solutions to their problems.
The
Governor stressed the need to introduce employment-oriented and
skill-development-based courses in colleges. She said that students should be
provided with an education that will enable them to become self-reliant and
gain better employment opportunities.
She
said that, as per the instructions of the Government of India, the foundation
days of various states are celebrated at Jan Bhavan, Lucknow, and foundation
day celebrations are also being held at universities. She directed that
foundation day celebrations be held at colleges as well, saying that positive
thinking, excellent work, and continuous efforts can take colleges to new
heights.
Instructing
colleges to take the preparations for the National Assessment and Accreditation
Council seriously, the Governor urged colleges to make their presentations
effective and continuously strive to improve their rankings. Wherever good work
is being done, efforts should be made to adopt it. It is essential to work with
a clear vision towards excellence.
She
directed that all colleges should provide information to Jan Bhavan about their
specialties, employment-oriented efforts, student training, and employment
opportunities. Each institution should systematically document its work and
results. The Governor explained that a farmer in Ballia district was provided
two cows as an inspiration, and today that farmer has become an inspiration for
other farmers. He said that with positive thinking, proper guidance, and
continuous efforts, remarkable change is possible. Similarly, all colleges
should work with an excellent approach and become a source of inspiration for
society.
On
this occasion, a documentary on Gujarat, produced by students of Chaudhary
Charan Singh University, Meerut, was also screened. The documentary depicted
how the devastating earthquake in Bhuj and Kutch caused extensive damage to
Gujarat. Subsequently, after the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi
became Chief Minister, extensive work was undertaken for the reconstruction and
development of Bhuj and Kutch, making new development and infrastructure
possible in the region. The trailer for the Governor's granddaughter, Sanskriti
