Mitch McConnell update: Conspiracy theorist says 'a lot is wrong' with Senator's new 'proof of life' photo

Mitch McConnell update: Conspiracy theorist says 'a lot is wrong' with Senator's new 'proof of life' photo

K entucky Senator Mitch McConnell's team has released a fresh photo from his hospital room, but it hasn't stopped questions online. A conspiracy theorist has now listed several details he says don't add up in the picture. Conspiracy theorist lists what looks off in new photo James Tate went through the newly released hospital photo of McConnell in detail, comparing it to a "What's Wrong With This Picture?" Tate said the room number signs don't match and questioned why a paper chart was hanging by the bed, since hospitals don't use those anymore. He also flagged the IV setup, the bag looks full and doesn't seem connected to McConnell along with extra hand sanitizer dispensers, oddly placed medical equipment, and glasses reflections that don't match the room's lighting. He found it strange that McConnell looked "camera-ready" in his usual jeans and red checkered shirt after weeks in hospital, but was clear he wasn't confirming anything: "I'm not declaring the photo AI. I'm not declaring it Photoshopped." Mitch McConnell’s team released yet another hospital photo, and apparently they forgot that some of us grew up doing the “What’s Wrong With This Picture?” puzzles in Highlights magazine. Because I have questions. A LOT of questions. First, why does the sign above the door appear… pic.twitter.com/FtfTWgUAKV — James Tate (@JamesTate121) July 18, 2026 And people on social media also had things to say, One user wrote, "My question: how did he get several years younger in this picture?" Another wrote, "Um...plus he looks 20 years younger in this pic than pics we've seen of him lately. Plus, if he can stand and walk, he can show up for work so we can all be proved wrong." "Dude isn't with us anymore. They are going to hide it as long as possible to preserve his vote in the senate," wrote another. Kentucky governor says he got calls suggesting McConnell had died Adding to the speculation, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear revealed he had received calls suggesting McConnell had died during his hospitalization. Speaking on Katie Couric's YouTube channel, Beshear said, "I'd gotten two calls from different agencies- not state agencies, suggesting he's passed," as per Daily Beast. Beshear also said it took about a month before any official word came from McConnell's office. Meanwhile, Chao faced her own scrutiny after being spotted leaving the rehabilitation facility wearing a mask, dark sunglasses and a heavy trench coat, despite record-breaking heat in Washington, DC at the time. What did McConnell say about his health Earlier, McConnell, 84, had confirmed for the first time that a fall led to his hospitalization, ending weeks of silence over his condition. He said he has gone through several tests as doctors try to determine the cause of the fall. That earlier statement was also accompanied by a photo, this one showing McConnell smiling with his wife, Elaine Chao, holding a copy of the Washington Post's sports section. That photo, too, faced scrutiny, with Laura Loomer and many people on social media questioning it. "folks of my generation often hesitate to share the vulnerability that comes with growing older," adding that he "can't help it" even as a public figure, he said in a statement. "Will render UGC irrelevant": KC Venugopal on Higher Education Commission Bill

"Will render UGC irrelevant": KC Venugopal on Higher Education Commission Bill

A lappuzha (Keralam) [India], July 19 (ANI): Congress General Secretary (Organisation) and MP KC Venugopal on Saturday voiced concern over the proposed Higher Education Commission Bill, alleging that it would centralise control over universities and undermine the autonomy of higher education institutions. Speaking at the official declaration ceremony marking the autonomous status granted to St Joseph's College in Alappuzha, Venugopal said the education sector should remain free from political interference. "Education should not be controlled by those in power or the opposition based on political interests. Higher education is facing major challenges. The proposed Higher Education Commission Bill will render the University Grants Commission (UGC) irrelevant. It envisages a single council to regulate both government and private universities, deciding what should be taught and how it should be taught. It will effectively become a university-controlling Bill," Venugopal said. The Congress leader's remarks came as the college celebrated its autonomous status, with Kerala Higher Education Minister Roji M John launching the 'De College 2026' project during the event. John said the state government aims to transform Keralam into a hub for higher education and assured full support to the institution in exercising its academic autonomy. "The government will provide all necessary support for the college to function independently in academic matters. The grant of autonomous status is recognition of St. Joseph's College's seven decades of academic excellence," the Minister said. The event was attended by Fr James Raphael Aanaparambil, MLA AD Thomas and other dignitaries. The remarks come as the Centre is expected to table the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025, and the controversial Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Secretary General of the Lower House stated in a bulletin. Meanwhile, Venugopal also criticised the Centre over the police action against activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was shifted from Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital after a 20-day hunger strike demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak issue. In a post on X, Venugopal alleged that the government had acted in a "fascist fashion" by removing Wangchuk from the protest site instead of addressing the protesters' demands. The Congress has intensified its demand for Pradhan's resignation ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning on July 20, alleging the Centre has failed to ensure transparency and accountability in the education sector. Two US service members killed, one missing in Jordan after Iranian strikes, says CENTCOM

Two US service members killed, one missing in Jordan after Iranian strikes, says CENTCOM

W ashington DC [US], July 19 (ANI): US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Saturday (local time) said that two US service members were killed and another remains missing in Jordan following Iranian strikes on the US military assets at the Al-Azraq Air Base. In a statement on X, CENTCOM stated that the incident occurred while American and partner forces were defending against the Iranian "ballistic missiles and drones" assault. According to CENTCOM, the service members were killed on July 17 while performing their duties during the coordinated defence against the Iranian strikes. "On July 17, two U.S. service members were killed in Jordan while performing their duties, during the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces' defense against attacks launched by Iran using ballistic missiles and drones. In addition, one service member remains among the missing," the statement said. CENTCOM further said that four US service members who sustained injuries during the attacks were medically evacuated to hospitals in Jordan. All four have since been discharged, while other personnel who received treatment for minor injuries have returned to duty. "Four U.S. service members were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals, and they later left the hospitals. Other service members who had undergone medical evaluation following minor injuries have returned to duty," the statement added. The command said it would not release the identities of the deceased personnel until at least 24 hours after their next of kin have been notified, citing respect for the families' privacy. "Out of respect for the families' privacy, U.S. Central Command will not disclose any additional information, including the identities of the service members who were killed, until 24 hours after their next of kin have been notified," CENTCOM said. Following the CENTCOM announcement, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth acknowledged the death of the service members, stating, "Godspeed, heroes. Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve," in a post on X. On Friday, the Iranian Army said it had targeted fuel storage facilities at Jordan's Al-Azraq Air Base as part of the 14th phase of Operation Lightning, launching drone strikes against multiple US military installations in Jordan and Kuwait. According to the statement by the Iranian Army's Public Relations, the country's armed forces also targeted an ammunition depot at Al-Udairi Camp, headquarters buildings and ammunition depots at Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, as well as several communication bridges. Iran's strikes come as a retaliatory attack after US forces launched another round of military strikes against Iran, marking the seventh consecutive night of operations. (ANI)
