50-50 formula for BJP and Shiv Sena alliance for assembly elections

Mumbai | BJP and Shiv Sena will contest the next month's Maharashtra Assembly elections jointly, a senior leader from Shiv Sena said.

The alliances would be announced on or before BJP Chief Amit Shah's Mumbai visit on 22, Sena secretary Anil Desai told a TV channel. Desai's comments came after the sidelines of a meeting with senior Sena leaders held in Mumbai on Friday.

The current reports say that Sena will contest 126 seats and the BJP 162 of the total 288 seats in the Assembly although Desai declined to comment on the figures, adding the seat-sharing will be as decided by Thackeray and CM Devendra Fadvnis.

BJP has to respect 50 -50 formula and that was decided in presence of Shah and Fadavnis said Sanjay Raut the Rajya Sabha MP from Shiv Sena party.

BJP and Shiv Sena contested the 2014 assembly election separately and failed to arrive at the seat-sharing formula. After BJP formed the government in October 2014 and Sena joined the ministry in the same year.
