No relief to Farooq Abdullah, detention increased by three more months

New Delhi| There seems to be no relief for the former Jammu and Kashmir CM Farooq Abdullah even after months of detention. On Saturday, his detention was extended for three more months. this means he will remain in his house converted into a sub-jail.

Farooq Abdullah has been MP five times. On August 5, the Center had announced the abrogation of Article 370 that gives the special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Since then, he has been in custody.

A strict public safety Act (PSA) was first imposed on the leader of the National Conference on September 17, shortly after which the Supreme Court was scheduled to hear a petition of MDMK leader Vaiko.

In the petition, Vaiko alleged that the NC leader was detained illegally. Officials said a case has been registered under the PSA's 'Government Order' on the National Conference Chairman, which allows a person to be kept in jail for three to six months without trial.
