PM Modi To Visit West Bengal and Assam Ahead of Assembly Elections In April-May
Kolkata| Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting West Bengal and Assam on Saturday. PM Modi will participate in the celebrations of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's birth anniversary. The government has decided to celebrate Subhash Jayanti i.e. 23rd January as Parakram Divas. The Prime Minister will also visit Netaji Bhawan on Elgin Road, Kolkata. He will issue coin and postage stamp in memory of Netaji. At the same time, PM will also distribute land lease to 1.06 lakh people of Assam.
PM Modi's visit to Bengal comes at a time when there are to be assembly elections in April-May. This time the BJP is making every effort to gain power in Bengal. The party has also set a target of winning more than 200 seats. The ministers and legislators of the ruling Trinamool Congress are leaving the party and joining the BJP.
Prior to the elections, politics in Bengal has intensified over Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. TMC leader and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently announced to celebrate Netaji's birth anniversary as 'Deshnaik Day'. At the same time, the Congress had said that if it comes to power, it will build the tallest statue of Netaji.
Prime Minister Modi will distribute land leases to the local people at Jerenga Pathar in Sivasagar district of Assam. This will benefit those people, who have been living on that land for more than 20 years. After getting the lease, they will become the owners of the land. With this, they will also get other government facilities. They will also be able to take a loan from the bank. The state's BJP government has distributed land leases to 2.28 lakh people since May 2016. Therefore, the PM's visit is considered important before the assembly elections in the state.
