Shashi Tharoor follows Congress trend in saying "Demonising Modi is wrong"
New Delhi | Congress leader Shashi Tharoor supported fellow leader Jairam Ramesh in his comments saying 'demonising PM Modi is wrong', and he should be praised for doing right things.
Shashi Tharoor said praising the Prime Minister for doing the right things would lend credibility to the opposition's criticism of him.
'As you know, I have argued for six years now that Narendra Modi should be praised whenever he says or does the right thing, which would add credibility to our criticisms whenever he errs. I welcome others in opposition coming around to a view for which I was excoriated at the time,' Mr Tharoor said.
At a Congress media briefing when asked about these remarks, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari had said, 'As the comments made by various people, whom you have referred to, are concerned, they are in the best position to clarify or amplify or retract or subtract their remarks,' Mr Tewari said.
Senior Congress leader, Abhishek Manu Singhvi has said that he had always maintained that demonising Modi is wrong. He tweeted in support of PM Modi saying, 'A one-way opposition actually helps him. Acts are always good, bad & indifferent—they must be judged issue wise and not person wise. Certainly, #ujjawala scheme is only one amongst other good deeds.'
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, speaking at a book launch, had said that Modi government has done things nobody has done before.
Jairam Ramesh said, 'Modi interacts with people in such a way that more and more people are directly connected to him. Modi's work is being appreciated by the public. Unless we accept that many acts are done by Modi for the first time, we (the Congress) cannot face them.' Ramesh also praised PM Modi's Ujjwala Yojana saying that millions of women benefitted from it.
