Is Naya Bharat Looking Strong or Defensive?

Is Naya Bharat Looking Strong or Defensive?

HW English 1 week ago

The best communication strategy is rarely loud, emotional, complicated or aggressive. The best communication is usually simple, calm, confident and easy to understand.

History repeatedly shows us that sometimes one simple sentence can convince the world. And sometimes a passionate emotional outburst cannot even convince people sitting inside our own homes.

Recently, MEA Secretary Sebi George tried answering that difficult but important question: "Why should the world trust India?"

I appreciate his effort. But personally, I felt the answer tried too hard. It sounded emotional, defensive and slightly desperate. And the moment communication begins to look desperate, the message starts losing strength.

Which brings me to a larger question.

When somebody questions our country, is the best response to question them back, troll them, insult them or humiliate them? Does that really change their opinion? Or does it reinforce the opinion the world may already be forming about us?

Strong nations do not panic at questions. Mature societies answer criticism with clarity, facts and composure. Confidence does not scream. It explains.

And perhaps the most important point of all: convincing people is often nothing but speaking the truth well.

Which is why I keep asking myself this one question.

Has this more aggressive version of "Naya Bharat" actually improved India's image globally? Or somewhere along the way, has it made the world see us as louder, more insecure and less tolerant of scrutiny?

A nation's strength is not measured only by military power, economic growth or election victories.

Sometimes, it is measured by how calmly it responds when questioned.
