HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has received nearly 1,500 objections from farmers to the preliminary notification issued for the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project.
The proposed RRR will extend 354 km with a width of 100 feet. Lands in eight districts, 33 mandals and 163 villages outside the Outer Ring Road (ORR) will be affected. Farmers said the alignment threatens their only source of livelihood and demanded a change. If not, they want fair compensation.
More objections than suggestions
HMDA uploaded details of the RRR (south) alignment on its website in the first week of September and invited suggestions and objections until September 15. Farmers from Nalgonda, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Ranga Reddy and Mahbubnagar districts submitted representations opposing the alignment. Officials said objections far outnumbered suggestions, with the highest number from Marrigudem, Talakonda and Kondapur villages.

Report to be submitted to government
HMDA officials said they are preparing a report on the objections and will submit it to the government soon. The final decision on the project will depend on the state government.
Protests in Parigi
In Parigi, farmers from eight villages staged a rally on Tuesday holding banners before submitting a petition to the tahsildar Venkateshwari. They said around 200 families stand to lose 360 acres of land for the radial road. "We will not give our land. The government must look for an alternative," the farmers said after placing their representation before the Ambedkar statue.
