HYDERABAD:Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 371 motorists during a special drunk-driving enforcement drive conducted over the weekend across its limits.
Police said the highest number of violations involved two-wheelers. Of the total cases, 255 were registered against two-wheeler riders, followed by 26 three wheelers, 85 four-wheelers and five heavy vehicles.
BAC levels and prosecution
Based on Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) readings, 316 offenders recorded levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 34 had BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while 21 motorists were found with BAC ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml. All offenders will be produced before the court, police said.
Cyberabad Police reiterated that drunk driving is a serious offence. If a motorist driving under the influence causes a fatal accident, the accused will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, dealing with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The offence attracts a maximum punishment of up to 10 years' imprisonment along with a fine.
444 cases disposed in a week
In the previous week, between December 29, 2025 and January 3, 2026, courts disposed of 444 drunk driving cases. Of these, four offenders were awarded both fine and jail, 20 were given fine and social service, while 420 were penalised with fine alone, police added.
