HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has appointed Ms. B. Sumathi, IPS (2006), as Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri, as part of a major reshuffle of senior officers notified on April 24, 2026.
Sumathi, who was serving as Inspector General of Police (IGP), State Intelligence Bureau (SIB), replaces Sri Avinash Mohanthy, IPS (2005), who has been transferred to head the Drugs Control Administration and Prohibition & Excise departments.

The posting marks a shift for Sumathi from intelligence operations to a frontline law-and-order role in the rapidly growing Malkajgiri commissionerate.
Her move is among several key changes aimed at realigning senior leadership across vigilance, intelligence and policing wings.
Part of broader IPS transfers across departments
The reshuffle includes postings in the Home Department, Anti-Corruption Bureau, and multi-zone policing units, with changes taking effect from May 1, 2026.
The orders were issued by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao in the name of the Governor of Telangana.
