Acting on credible information, Medchal police along with the Special Operations Team (SOT), Quthbullapur, intercepted a Mahindra Bolero vehicle near the Outer Ring Road under Medchal police station limits.

During the operation, police found that the consignment was being transported from Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh to Nagpur in Maharashtra. The seeds were concealed under cabbage bags to evade checks.

Police identified the main supplier as Maguluri Samba Shivarao, who is currently on the run. He allegedly hired the vehicle for ₹30,000 to transport the banned seeds.

The arrested accused were identified as Talari Ramesh, the driver, and Chevula Narsimulu, the vehicle owner. Both are residents of Kosgi mandal in Kurnool district.

Repeat offence links emerge during investigation

Police said Shivarao and Narsimulu were earlier involved in a similar case registered in 2025 at Athmakur police station in Suryapet district.

The total seizure includes the cotton seeds worth ₹90 lakh and the Bolero vehicle valued at ₹8 lakh, taking the total to ₹98 lakh.

A case has been registered under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, Section 19 of the Seeds Act, 1966, and Section 15(1) of the Environment Protection Act, 1986.

The accused and seized property have been produced before a court for further legal action.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Quthbullapur Zone) N Koti Reddy said police are intensifying efforts to curb the circulation of spurious seeds and urged the public to share information with authorities.
