HYDERABAD: The Ranga Reddy District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has fined Life Slimming and Cosmetic Clinic ₹80,000 for deficiency in service in a skin treatment case.
The Commission directed the clinic to refund ₹60,000 to the complainant, along with ₹10,000 as compensation for mental agony and ₹10,000 towards litigation costs. It ordered the payment within 45 days, failing which the amount will attract 12% annual interest until realisation.
Complaint over ineffective facial treatment
According to the complaint, Nagalla Muralidhar, a resident of Moosapet, approached the clinic's Hitech City branch in December 2023 for treatment of a facial skin issue.
The clinic charged him ₹53,100 for a treatment package. However, he stated that the procedure did not yield the promised results.
Additional payment for 'complementary' procedure
The complainant alleged that the clinic later informed him about a complementary treatment and demanded an additional ₹60,000. Trusting the assurance, he paid the amount.
Despite undergoing the additional procedure, he did not experience any improvement. When he sought a refund, the clinic did not respond, prompting him to approach the consumer forum.
Commission finds deficiency in service
After examining the background of the case, documentary evidence and audio recordings submitted by the complainant, the Commission held the clinic responsible for deficiency in service.
It ordered the clinic to refund ₹60,000, pay ₹10,000 as compensation and ₹10,000 towards case expenses within 45 days.
The Commission cautioned that failure to comply with the order would result in 12% interest per annum on the total amount until payment.
