HYDERABAD: The Indian National Congress (INC) has clinched the Jubilee Hills assembly seat in a convincing by-election victory, consolidating its position in the state capital.

INC candidate V Naveen Yadav secured a majority of 24,729 votes and 51% of the total vote share, leaving Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) a distant second at 38%, according to the final, ward-wise data.

In the final round, Naveen Yadav received 98,988 votes, winning by 24,729 votes over Maganti Sunitha (BRS), who received 74,259 votes, and Deepak Lankala (BJP), who received 17,061 votes.

The bye-election, called after the sitting BRS MLA's resignation, became a high-stakes contest, with the Congress emerging as the dominant party across nearly all constituency wards.

An analysis of the polling data reveals that Congress not only won the seat but also led in all seven wards within the Jubilee Hills assembly segment including Shaikpet, Erragadda, Vengal Rao Nagar, Rahamath Nagar, Somajiguda, Yousufguda, and Borabanda.

Dominant ward-wise lead

The Congress's performance was particularly formidable in wards like Yousufguda (55%), Rahamath Nagar (53%), Vengal Rao Nagar (52%), and Somajiguda (51%), where it crossed the halfway mark of the vote share. In the remaining cards, almost reaching the halfway mark, Borabanda (49%), Shaikpet (48%), and Erragadda (48%) were noted.

Its strongest showings in terms of sheer vote numbers came from Rahamath Nagar (20,728 votes) and Shaikpet (15,018 votes), Erragadda(14,158), Vengal Rao Nagar(13,348), Somajiguda(7,135), Yousufguda(13,829), and Borabanda(14,729), demonstrating deep penetration in both high and moderate voter-turnout areas.

The BRS, while finishing second, managed to put up a strong fight in its traditional bastions, notably in Shaikpet (42%), Borabanda (41%), and Erragadda(40%), but failed to surpass the Congress in any ward.

The party's vote share hovered in the low 30s in several key wards, including Rahamath Nagar (38%), Vengal Rao Nagar (35%), Yousufguda (34%), and Somajiguda (32%), highlighting a significant erosion of its support base.

The BJP, hoping to gain traction, finished a distant third with just 9% vote share. Its best showing was in 97-Somajiguda ward (15%), while most other wards saw single-digit support.

Congress's margin of over 24,000 votes sends a strong message, reflecting its effective voter mobilization.
