Cyberabad police book 333 for drunk driving in weekend crackdown

HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad Traffic Police (CTP) booked 333 motorists during a special weekend drive against drunk driving across the commissionerate.

Of the total offenders, 269 were riding two-wheelers, 11 were driving three-wheelers, 51 were driving four-wheelers and two were operating heavy vehicles.

, 262 offenders recorded Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 50 had BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while 21 registered BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.

Traffic Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) G Narender said all the offenders would be produced before the respective courts.

The Cyberabad police reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence. They warned that any person found driving in an intoxicated condition and causing a fatal road accident would be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The offence carries a maximum punishment of 10 years' imprisonment along with a fine.

232 drunken driving cases disposed of last week

Police said that between July 27 and August 1, courts disposed of 232 drunken driving cases.

Of these, three offenders were sentenced to a fine and imprisonment, around half a dozen were awarded a fine along with community service, and 223 were fined.
