DGP praises SIB efforts in tackling Maoists, facilitating surrenders

HYDERABAD: Director-General of Police

During his visit to the SIB office in Hyderabad, Anand praised the agency's role in weakening the Maoist movement through intelligence-led operations, confidence-building measures and rehabilitation programmes.

The DGP especially appreciated the efforts of SIB officers who persuaded underground Maoist cadres to give up violence and return to the mainstream.

Maoist leaders consider surrender amid setbacks

Focus on rehabilitation and reintegration

Anand reviewed the Maoist situation and examined ongoing anti-extremist operations and intelligence initiatives taken up by the SIB to address Telangana's security concerns.

He also reviewed rehabilitation measures for surrendered Maoists and assured continued police support for their reintegration.

The DGP said the SIB should continue tracking surrendered cadres and ensure they receive skill training, job-oriented programmes, employment support and rehabilitation assistance to help them rebuild their lives.

SIB asked to adapt to changing security challenges

Speaking about the changing security environment, Anand said the decline of Maoism after four decades has created new responsibilities for the SIB. He asked the agency to adapt to emerging challenges and play a wider role in intelligence gathering.

He also urged officers to study changing social trends, including the growing impact of social media on society.

Anand later interacted with officers and staff of the intelligence wing.

Additional DGP (Intelligence) Vijay Kumar, IGP Kartikeya and other senior officials attended the visit.
