Driver held for using fake number plate to evade traffic fines in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Traffic Police have booked a 43-year-old driver for allegedly using a fake vehicle number plate to evade fines and mislead authorities.

The accused, Mohammed Moinuddin, a resident of Tolichowki, was found using a fake registration number TS11EU5327 on his Honda Activa instead of its original number TS12ER2466.

Police said the accused resorted to the fake plate to avoid traffic challans and evade finance agents. As a result, multiple fines were wrongly issued to the legitimate owner of the registration number.

A case has been registered and a notice has been served to the accused. Further investigation is underway.

Police warn of strict action against tampered plates

Officials said the use of fake or tampered number plates is a serious offence under law. Authorities are increasingly relying on CCTV surveillance and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to detect such violations.

Citizens have been urged to report suspicious vehicles through the e-challan portal, email, or WhatsApp channels, the police added.
