ECI to roll out Special Intensive Revision in Telangana, voters asked to verify details

HYDERABAD: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will soon launch a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy said in a press release on April 27.

The schedule for the revision will be announced shortly. The ECI is empowered under law to prepare and revise electoral rolls and conducts such exercises periodically to maintain their integrity.

Verification linked to 2002 electoral roll database

The official said the latest revision is being undertaken in view of significant changes in voter data due to migration, duplication of registrations, and non-removal of deceased voters. The objective is to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out and no ineligible person is included.

At present, Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) are matching details of current electors with records from the last SIR conducted in 2002. Electors must provide these details in the Enumeration Form.

Voters can retrieve their 2002 SIR details through the Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana website or the ECI voter portal using the "search by elector details" option. Polling station-wise electoral rolls are also available in PDF format.

If an elector's name is not found in the 2002 roll, they may not have been enrolled at that time. In such cases, details of parents or grandparents can be used and entered in the form. Printed copies of the 2002 roll are available with BLOs to assist voters.

No documents needed initially; verification notices to follow

During the enumeration phase, voters are not required to submit any documents. However, notices will be issued to those whose details cannot be matched with the 2002 records, asking them to provide supporting documents to establish eligibility.

The ECI has listed acceptable documents, including identity cards or pension orders issued by government bodies, certificates issued before July 1, 1987, birth certificates, passports, educational certificates, residence certificates, caste certificates, land or house allotment papers, and entries in family or citizen registers.

For Aadhaar-related verification, the Commission's guidelines issued on September 9, 2025, will apply.

Electors have been advised to verify their details or those of their family members and get them linked with the 2002 SIR data by contacting their BLO or ERO. This will help avoid submission of documents and inconvenience during the revision process.
