KHANAPURAM: A forest fire broke out in the Pakala forest area of Khanapuram mandal in Warangal district on Sunday night, spreading from a neighbouring district before being brought under control.

Officials act swiftly to prevent major damage

The fire originated in the Adilakshmipuram forest area under the Kothaguda range of Mahabubabad district and spread across nearly 50 acres of forest land, moving through Kiryathanda and up to Dabbirpet.

Joint effort contains blaze after eight hours

Residents of Kiryathanda and Dabbirpet, alarmed by the advancing flames, alerted Narsampet Sub-Collector Puppala Ravikiran. Forest officials informed district collector Satyasarada, following which coordinated efforts were launched.

Around 100 people, including forest department base camp staff, revenue and police officials, and local villagers, worked for nearly eight hours to douse the fire. The blaze was brought under control using air blowers by the forest department, while others beat down flames using tree branches.

Officials said timely action ensured the fire did not spread towards Pakala. Locals lauded the efforts of Sub-Collector Ravikiran, Sub-Inspector Raghupati and Khanapuram tahsildar Ramesh for averting a major incident.
