HYDERABAD: Former Director General of Police (DGP) of undivided Andhra Pradesh, H.J. Dora, passed away on Friday morning at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences ( NIMS).
He was 83.
A 1965-batch senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Dora had been receiving regular dialysis for kidney-related ailments. His condition worsened on Friday, and despite medical efforts in the Acute Respiratory Care Unit, he succumbed to his illness.
Dora served as DGP of Andhra Pradesh from November 1996 to 2002. His tenure was noted for strategic measures against Left-Wing Extremism during a period of heightened unrest in the State. He also served as Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and as Vigilance Commissioner at the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).

Apart from his police career, Dora was an accomplished author. His autobiography, Journey Through Turbulent Times, detailed his professional experiences, while his Telugu book, NTR Tho Nenu (Me with NTR), offered insights into state administration.
