Hyderabad : The Centre is ready in principle to support the Phase-II expansion of the Hyderabad Metro on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis with the Telangana government, Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy said on Wednesday.
Kishan Reddy made the statement after meeting Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi. The two ministers reviewed major urban development projects underway in Hyderabad under the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Metro expansion proposals under review
The ministers discussed urban infrastructure, sanitation and public transport projects, including the Phase-II expansion of the Hyderabad Metro.
Khattar said the Centre would examine the Detailed Project Report and technical specifications related to the remaining Phase-II works before taking a final decision. He noted that the Telangana government had already taken over Metro operations from Larsen & Toubro.
Kishan Reddy said the Centre had "no objection in principle" to the Metro expansion proposal and was prepared for equal cost sharing with the State government.
The Telangana government has submitted proposals for Phase-II Metro expansion covering 162 km. Khattar said the Centre would examine the proposals positively and initiate further action.
Musi River sanitation projects sanctioned
Kishan Reddy said Khattar also reviewed sanitation measures linked to the Musi River.
Under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 scheme, the Centre has sanctioned 39 sewage treatment plants at a cost of ₹3,975 crore to treat sewage flowing into the river.
According to Khattar, the plants will have the capacity to treat 972 million litres of sewage daily. He said the project would help prevent untreated wastewater from entering the Musi River and improve sanitation across Hyderabad.
Centre assures support for Hyderabad projects
Kishan Reddy said Khattar assured full cooperation from the Centre for Hyderabad's infrastructure and urban development projects.
He thanked the Union minister on behalf of the people of Hyderabad.
