GHMC to introduce AI-based facial attendance to curb bogus staff

HyderabadMail.com 6 months ago

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is set to introduce an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based facial recognition attendance system across all zonal and circle offices to prevent bogus employees and fake attendance entries.

Officials said the system would automatically record when employees enter and leave office premises, helping detect those drawing salaries without being on the rolls. It would also identify staff who skip work or report late.

Under the new system, special CCTV cameras will capture employees' entry and exit, marking attendance without requiring them to stop or scan manually. The duration of their stay in the office will be computed automatically.

Work performance will be analysed using a colour-coded scheme - green for over six hours, orange for 5-6 hours, red for less than five hours, and ash for long-term leave. Salaries will be processed accordingly to promote transparency and accountability.

The GHMC plans to deploy the Edge-based AI Facial Recognition Attendance Management System in six zonal and 30 circle offices. The data will be integrated with the Human Resource Management System (HRMS) and payroll network, enabling real-time monitoring by senior officials through a central dashboard at the head office.

Officials said the system would operate seamlessly with or without an internet connection and would eliminate manual errors and delays in attendance reporting. The civic body has already invited tenders for implementation.

The move is part of GHMC's effort to modernise city governance and strengthen efficiency through technology.
