HYDERABAD: Heavy traffic congestion was reported near Abdullapurmet on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway on Friday as people began travelling to their hometowns during the long holiday break.
Vehicles moved at a crawl from the Outer Ring Road towards the Vijayawada highway, with commuters facing delays of over an hour at several stretches.
Road-widening works near Abdullapurmet created bottlenecks, reducing carriageway space and causing traffic to pile up during peak hours, traffic police officials said.

Authorities advised motorists to plan travel during non-peak hours and use alternative routes where possible until congestion eases.
