HYDERABAD: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana's Ranga Reddy Range arrested two police officers from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) Police Outpost in Shamshabad after they allegedly demanded and accepted a Rs 2 lakh bribe as part of a larger Rs 5 lakh demand.
The officers reportedly sought the bribe to prevent the arrest and legal action against a complainant's family members.
The arrested officers are U.K. Siddeshwar, Sub Inspector (SI) of Police, and Sampathi Kanakaiah, Inspector of Police, both assigned to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport(RGIA) Police Outpost.
According to the ACB, the officers demanded Rs 5 lakh from the complainant in exchange for "filing the charge sheet and not involving or arresting the complainant's family members" in a case at the RGI Airport Police Station.
On April 7, 2026, the ACB conducted a trap operation. The officers accepted Rs 2 lakh as part payment of the bribe, and ACB officials apprehended them redhandedly. The bureau stated that the accused acted "improperly and dishonestly to obtain undue advantage."
After the arrests, ACB teams searched the residence of Inspector Sampathi Kanakaiah, and recovered Rs 33,97,000 in cash, along with several property documents. Officials are reviewing the documents to determine the extent of the officer's assets and any possible disproportionate wealth.
The ACB formally arrested the officers and presented them before the Special Judge for SPE & ACB cases at Nampally, Hyderabad, for judicial remand. Investigators continue the investigation and may make further arrests or seizures.
The ACB urged citizens to report bribe demands by calling the toll-free number 1064. Citizens can also send complaints via WhatsApp (9440446106), Facebook (Telangana ACB), and X at @Telangana ACB. Officials have displayed QR codes for the ACB in government offices and public places. The bureau keeps the identity of complainants strictly confidential.
