Hyderabad Leads Telangana Vehicle Registrations

HYDERABAD: Telangana recorded 10.62 lakh new vehicle registrations in the 2025-26 financial year, with an average of 2,900 vehicles purchased every day.

Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal districts accounted for nearly half of the state's total registrations.

Hyderabad topped the list with 1,97,539 registrations, followed by Rangareddy with 1,87,044 and Medchal with 1,75,630. Together, the three districts recorded 5.60 lakh new vehicles, accounting for around 50% of the state's total purchases. The transport department conducted a study on registrations and related trends during the last financial year.

Urban districts record steady growth

Districts with major cities and towns continued to witness higher vehicle purchases, while registrations remained lower in rural regions. Officials attributed the rise in Hyderabad, Medchal and Rangareddy to the presence of Information Technology companies and industrial activity.

Sangareddy recorded 49,841 registrations, followed by Nalgonda with 38,543, Nizamabad with 32,087 and Khammam with 31,195. Increasing urbanisation and commercial activity contributed to steady growth in these districts.

Karimnagar and Mahabubnagar reported similar numbers, with 19,562 and 19,216 registrations respectively.

Forest districts remain at bottom

The fewest registrations were reported in forested districts. Mulugu recorded the lowest with 4,639 vehicles, followed by Bhupalpally with 6,534 and Asifabad with 7,136.

Two-wheelers accounted for more than 70% of all vehicle purchases in the state. Cars and tractors followed in the next positions. Telangana State Road Transport Corporation also added more than 1,000 new buses during the year.
