Hyderabad police recover ₹1.2 lakh lost in auto

HYDERABAD: Ramgopalpet police recovered a bag containing ₹1.20 lakh that was accidentally left behind in an autorickshaw and returned it to the owner within hours after a complaint was lodged.

The incident came to light on May 18, 2026, when Sai Kumar approached the Ramgopalpet police station and filed a complaint. He told police that he and his family had travelled to KIMS Hospital around 2pm for his father's operation.

In the rush at the hospital, he accidentally left behind a bag containing ₹1.20 lakh meant for medical expenses inside the autorickshaw.

Police team tracks autorickshaw through surveillance footage

Soon after receiving the complaint, Ramgopalpet Station House Officer B. Suresh Kumar formed a special team comprising crime staff head constable G. Suresh and constables S. Pramod Kumar and B. Narasimha.

The team examined CCTV footage from areas surrounding the hospital and along the route taken by the autorickshaw. Police identified the vehicle number and successfully traced the driver within a short time.

Driver hands over cash bag safely at police station

After being contacted by police, the autorickshaw driver reached the police station and handed over the bag containing the entire ₹1.20 lakh in the presence of police officials.

Sai Kumar thanked the police for responding quickly and helping recover the money required for his father's treatment during a difficult time.

SHO B. Suresh Kumar later felicitated the autorickshaw driver with a shawl for his honesty and also appreciated the crime team for solving the case swiftly.
