HYDERABAD: Residents of Vision Cascade Greens and North NCL Colony in Kompally have filed a formal complaint with the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) and the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC).
They are worried about ongoing air pollution coming from the nearby Jeedimetla industrial area. They mention smoke from factories, burning of tires and trash, dust, and pollution from vehicles.
In a petition signed by more than a dozen residents, the community said their neighborhood, close to the Jeedimetla industrial area, has often had bad air quality. People have seen smoke, dust, and smelled strong or dangerous odors. The likely sources are factory emissions, burning of trash, traffic, and dust from nearby businesses.
Residents are worried about pollution from factories, including tiny dust particles (PM2.5 and PM10), gases like nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur dioxide (SO₂), carbon monoxide (CO), and chemicals called volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In addition, the petition said that winds may blow these pollutants from the industrial area into nearby neighborhoods.

Waste burning adds to Kompally's air pollution concerns
Residents also reported that people burn tires, plastics, trash, and other waste in the area. As a result, burning these materials can create a lot of air pollution and release dangerous chemicals, depending on what is being burned and how.
Sometimes, it is not clear who is burning the waste. Therefore, residents have asked the authorities to investigate, find those responsible, figure out what is being burned, and take action according to the law.
Breathing in dust, smoke, chemicals, and other air pollution for a long time is a serious health problem. In particular, this is especially true for children, older people, and anyone who is more sensitive to air pollution.
Residents are worried about both the short-term and long-term effects of pollution. For instance, health problems may include trouble breathing, heart and lung diseases, and irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat. The petition asked officials to be careful, check where the pollution comes from, and see if it is dangerous for people living nearby.
Residents seek air monitoring and joint inspections
Residents have asked TGPCB to set up air quality monitoring stations in and around Vision Cascade Greens and North NCL Colony. Specifically, they want the stations to check for dust, gases, and dangerous chemicals in the air.
Residents also want the authorities to test the air when there are signs of pollution from factories or burning waste. Furthermore, they have asked for joint inspections of factories, waste storage sites, places where burning happens, roads with a lot of dust, and heavy vehicle routes. They want to make sure everyone follows pollution control rules.
Residents want CMC and TGPCB to create a mobile app or website where people can report burning of waste or other pollution. In this way, the app should let people upload photos or videos, show the location, and track the status of complaints. They also want a public dashboard to show how complaints are being handled.
The petition ends by asking the authorities to act quickly, check the situation fully, and take steps to make sure people have clean and safe air. Residents said they are willing to help and give information to the authorities. The petition was signed by residents of Vision Cascade Greens and North NCL Colony, Kompally.
