KTR questions phone tapping probe, alleges Congress conspiracy

HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K T Rama Rao on Tuesday made emotional remarks at Telangana Bhavan, saying he had worked for the state for the past 20 years and had faced several conspiracies even before the formation of Telangana.

Recalling the Telangana movement, KTR said the state was achieved after overcoming "conspiracies by leaders and governments of the undivided Andhra Pradesh." He said allegations and conspiracies by the Congress were "nothing new."

Claims of development, concern over present situation

After statehood, he said, he discharged every responsibility given to him with commitment. Telangana, he added, recorded "remarkable development" over 10 years, built through sacrifices.

"Seeing the present developments in such a state causes deep anguish," KTR said, citing what he described as an agrarian crisis, collapse of systems across sectors, farmer and weaver suicides, student hardships, and unemployment protests.

Allegations of smear campaign

KTR said he never indulged in "time-pass politics" and never targeted political opponents or their families, nor used false cases. However, he alleged that for the past five to six years, the Congress had carried out a "vicious smear campaign" against him.

Referring to alleged attempts to link him to drugs cases and film actresses, KTR said his family, including his children, had been subjected to mental harassment. "I did not fear then, and I will not fear any conspiracy now, including in the phone tapping issue," he said.

Phone tapping issue

Stating that he had been summoned for inquiry in the phone tapping case, KTR said he would cooperate and also seek answers. He questioned whether there was even a single piece of official evidence to support what he called "serial leaks" over the past two years aimed at assassinating his character.

He asked whether any police officer would categorically state that phone tapping was not taking place in the state, naming the Director General of Police, Shivadhar Reddy, senior officer Sajjanar, and the Intelligence IG.

KTR alleged that the phone tapping controversy was being used by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy as a diversion from what he called the Singareni coal scam raised by the BRS. He alleged that a coal mining scam involving thousands of crores was centred around Revanth Reddy's relative, and said the Centre had not responded so far.

"We will fight without fear or bowing down, as proud children of Telangana," KTR said, adding that the party would work unitedly as "soldiers of K Chandrashekar Rao" to bring him back as chief minister.

He thanked those who came to express solidarity and said the BRS would continue its fight against what he described as Congress failures and corruption, focusing on alleged corruption and the implementation of Congress promises.
