MEIL invests ₹1,021 crore in Ananthagiri tourism project

HYDERABAD:Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL), active in infrastructure, irrigation, power and electric mobility, has entered the tourism sector with a major investment in Telangana.

The company will invest ₹1,021 crore to develop a wellness retreat project named "La Vie Wellness Retreat" across 81 acres in Ananthagiri hills of Vikarabad district, as part of an agreement with the state government signed at the World Economic Forum in January 2025.

Iconic status brings incentives and long lease

The government has leased the land to MEIL's subsidiary, Camelot Retreats, for 66 years, with an option to extend up to 99 years. The project has been classified under the "iconic category" in the Telangana Tourism Policy 2025-30.

Incentives include 100% State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) reimbursement for 15 years, a 3% interest subsidy on term loans for 10 years, and a ₹3 per unit power subsidy for 15 years. Full reimbursement of land registration and conversion charges has also been approved.

The first phase will see an investment of ₹571.40 crore.

Luxury villas, therapy centres and global spa facilities

The project aims to position Hyderabad as a health tourism destination. Plans include luxury villas, suite rooms, nature therapy centres, and facilities for mud therapy and hydrotherapy.

Dedicated yoga spaces, international-standard spa centres, and Kerala Ayurveda treatments will be offered. The project will also include organic food services, recreational facilities for children, multi-cuisine restaurants, wine marts, and five-star hotel infrastructure.

The state has mandated that the project secure a five-star deluxe rating from the Union tourism ministry within one year of commercial operations and partner with global wellness and spa operators. MEIL must retain at least a 51% stake for five years after operations begin.

Project aims jobs, revenue and global tourism appeal

The project is designed to attract international tourists, including visitors from Europe and the United States. It is expected to generate employment for around 2,000 local youth in hospitality, therapy and related sectors.

The government estimates revenue of ₹1,204 crore over 66 years through lease payments and taxes.

Officials said the project will support the state's goal of developing Hyderabad into a health tourism hub while expanding MEIL's presence into a new sector.
