PM Modi's Road Convoy Leads to Heavy Traffic Restrictions in Hyderabad

PM Modi's Road Convoy Leads to Heavy Traffic Restrictions in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled by road convoy in Hyderabad on Sunday instead of using a helicopter between Begumpet airport and other venues.

The revised travel plan led to traffic curbs and tighter security across several parts of the city. The Malkajgiri Commissionerate handled security and traffic arrangements for the Prime Minister's visit.

Police enforced traffic restrictions from 1 pm to 9 pm in many areas to facilitate convoy movement.

Authorities also banned drones and paragliders in sensitive zones, including Begumpet, Bowenpally and Marredpally, citing security concerns.

Police advised commuters to plan travel in advance and use alternate routes to avoid congestion during the restricted hours.

Modi Calls for Fuel Conservation and Reduced Imports

Prime Minister Modi urged citizens to cut discretionary spending on imported products and conserve fuel as tensions in West Asia threaten global supply chains and increase economic uncertainty.

Addressing concerns over rising global prices and supply disruptions caused by international conflicts, Modi said Indians should adopt restraint in daily consumption to reduce pressure on the economy and save foreign exchange reserves.

"Today, the need of the hour is to use petrol, gas, diesel and similar resources with restraint. We must use imported petroleum products only as needed. This will not only save foreign exchange but also reduce the adverse impact of war," he said.

India imports nearly 90% of its crude oil requirement, while domestic production has declined in recent years.

Govt Highlights Clean Energy Push

The Prime Minister said the Centre had first focused on ensuring universal liquefied petroleum gas coverage for poor households. He added that the government is now expanding affordable piped gas connections across the country.

"By using these resources wisely, we can save significant foreign exchange over the next year. Our government is working tirelessly to navigate these challenges," Modi said.

He also highlighted fertiliser subsidies, saying farmers in India receive a bag of urea for around ₹300, while the same quantity costs nearly ₹3,000 in several other countries.

Modi urged people to support 'Make in India' products and choose Indian alternatives in everyday purchases, including consumer goods such as toothpaste.

PM Promotes EVs and Lower Oil Consumption

The Prime Minister also promoted electric vehicles and solar-powered pumps as alternatives to diesel-operated systems. He called for reducing cooking oil consumption by 50%, linking it to both economic savings and healthier lifestyles.

Modi's remarks come amid growing concerns over the impact of geopolitical tensions in West Asia on crude oil prices, shipping routes and global supply chains.
