HYDERABAD: With Raksha Bandhan approaching, police have stepped up checks on sweet shops and manufacturing units as demand for sweets rises during the festival.
As part of the drive, Special Operations Team (SOT) police raided an alleged adulterated sweets manufacturing unit under the Pocharam IT Corridor police station limits in Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
During the raid, police found the use of synthetic colours that could pose a health risk at Balaji Sweet House. Officials also found unhygienic conditions at the unit.

The police further found that cooking oil was being reused repeatedly at the facility.
The unit was being operated by Kamal, a native of Rajasthan. Police took him into custody and registered a case.
The raid was conducted as part of checks on sweet shops ahead of Raksha Bandhan.
