HYDERABAD: Public transport across Hyderabad came to a halt on Friday as the statewide bandh in support of OBC reservation brought Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) services to a standstill.
The disruption, which coincides with the pre-Diwali rush, left hundreds of passengers stranded at major bus stops and depots since early morning.
Commuters said buses stopped operating from dawn, forcing many to depend on autos and app-based cabs. Several passengers alleged that fares were doubled, with some drivers refusing short distance rides. "I've been waiting for more than an hour near Ameerpet, but there's not a single bus. Auto drivers are asking ₹300 for a 5-km ride," said Rekha, a private employee.

Reports from various parts of the city indicated near-total disruption of TSRTC operations, particularly from depots in Kukatpally, Uppal, and Dilsukhnagar. Employees' unions reportedly joined the bandh call, pressing for implementation of OBC reservation and other pending demands.
Vandalism, forced closures reported
Police confirmed receiving reports of minor vandalism and forced shutdowns in parts of Secunderabad and LB Nagar. Several shops remained closed as a precaution, while educational institutions recorded low attendance. Additional police forces were deployed in sensitive areas to prevent untoward incidents.
Authorities advised citizens to avoid non-essential travel. Officials said transport services may resume later in the day depending on the situation.
