Quack's clinic raided in Sangareddy, drugs worth ₹10,000 seized

SANGAREDDY: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, raided a clinic run by an unqualified practitioner in Mallepally village of Kondapur mandal, Sangareddy district, and seized medicines stocked illegally for sale.

Acting on credible information, DCA officials raided the premises of S Satish Kumar at H. No. 2-21, Shop No. 2, Mallepally village, on friday. Officials said the man was conducting clinical practice without the required qualifications or licence.

During the raid, the DCA team found 25 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, analgesics, anti-diabetic drugs and anti-hypertensive drugs. The stock, valued at ₹10,000, was seized.Officials said several antibiotics such as Amoxicillin, Gentamicin, Ciprofloxacin, Norfloxacin and Azithromycin were stocked at the clinic. They warned that the indiscriminate sale of antibiotics by unqualified persons could contribute to antimicrobial resistance, posing a serious public health risk.

The raid was carried out by N Ravikiran Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Sangareddy, and T Praveen Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Bollaram, under the supervision of P Ramu, Assistant Director, Patancheru. Samples of the seized drugs were lifted for analysis. Officials said further investigation is under way, and action will be taken under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

Advisory to wholesalers and dealers

The DCA issued a warning that wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to quacks, unqualified persons and unlicensed shops will face penal action. Officials stressed that wholesalers must ensure medicines are supplied only to entities with valid drug licences issued by the competent authority.

Stocking or selling drugs without a valid licence is punishable with imprisonment of up to five years, the department said.

The DCA urged the public to report any illegal drug stocking, sales, or suspected manufacturing of narcotics and psychotropic substances in residential, commercial or industrial areas. Complaints can be lodged on the toll-free number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10.30 to 17.00 IST on all working days.
