The nala, being built on a lane beside Madhura Nagar police station, had caved in once earlier and collapsed again in the early hours of Tuesday. Workers were seen removing the concrete laid over the nala.

Schoolchildren have also been facing difficulties while negotiating the uneven road created by the nala works. Residents who would normally reach their homes after walking just a few metres now have to take a longer route through the surrounding lanes.

Residents have expressed anger over the prolonged construction of what they described as a small nala and demanded action against the contractor concerned.

They also alleged that HYDRAA Commissioner A V Ranganath had visited the area some time ago, but there had been no progress in the works even after his visit.

GHMC cites sewage flow for repeated collapse

GHMC staff said a water pipeline was located at the spot where the nala was originally planned. Despite repeated communication to Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board officials, there was no response, forcing them to shift the nala alignment and construct it alongside the pipeline.

Officials said this had contributed to the delay in completing the work.

A. Rajeshwari, deputy executive engineer, Borabanda Circle-37, said the sewage flow at the construction site was heavy and the centring put up for the nala slab could not withstand the flow.

"The sewage flow at the nala construction site in Rahmath Nagar is very heavy. The centring arranged for the nala slab is unable to withstand the sewage flow. That is why it is caving in after the concrete is laid. We will make alternative arrangements to prevent the centring from collapsing and complete the nala construction soon," she said.
