HYDERABAD: A woman posing as a doctor allegedly sedated a patient and fled with gold jewellery at Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad, police said.
The incident surfaced after the patient's family reported the theft.
Incident occurs while patient prepares for hospital discharge
Sudha Rani, a resident of Old Bowenpally, had been admitted to the hospital due to illness. Hospital staff were preparing to discharge her after treatment when the incident occurred.
Police said a woman dressed as a doctor entered Sudha Rani's room and told family members she needed to administer treatment. She asked them to step outside the room.
Police examine CCTV footage after family files complaint
After the family members stepped out, the woman left the room a short while later. When the relatives returned, they found Sudha Rani unconscious and suspected foul play.
They soon realised that about 10 tolas of gold jewellery worn by the patient was missing. The family informed the hospital management.
Hospital authorities reportedly clarified that the woman was not an employee of the hospital. The victim's family then filed a complaint with the police.
Police said they are examining CCTV footage and will soon identify and arrest the woman involved in the theft.
