HYDERABAD: A 24-year-old software engineer lodged a complaint with Madhapur police station alleging sextortion after receiving a WhatsApp video call from an unknown woman who later used an edited clip to demand money.
According to the complaint received on March 18, 2026, Victim, a resident of Ayyappa Society, said he received a WhatsApp video call on March 15, 2026 around 23.00 IST from mobile. He stated that the caller appeared nude and asked him to remove his clothes. He disconnected the call within 20 to 30 seconds.
Video edited and used for extortion
Complainant said he received another WhatsApp call within minutes from the same number, this time from a male caller speaking in Hindi. The caller allegedly shared an edited video of the earlier interaction and threatened to upload it on social media.

He further stated that the caller sent the video to his friends on Instagram and demanded money to delete it. Out of fear, Victim said he initially transferred the requested amount. The caller allegedly continued demanding more money, claiming additional payments were required to delete the video from the mobile gallery.
Screen-share used to obtain family number
The complainant stated that when he said he did not have sufficient funds, the caller instructed him to open Google Pay through WhatsApp screen share and select the mobile recharge option. He alleged that the caller then obtained his father's mobile number and continued the threats.
The accused allegedly demanded ₹1,80,000 to delete one video and another ₹1,80,000 for a second clip, giving a deadline of June 16, 2026. Fearing further circulation, Victim said he transferred ₹1,80,000 from multiple accounts, including HDFC Bank and Union Bank of India.
He also provided details of the accounts to which money was transferred, including mobile number and a Bandhan Bank account.
Complainant said the caller attempted to contact him twice again on March 16, 2026 seeking more money. He refused, and no further calls were received. He requested police to investigate and take legal action.
