SIT issues notice to KTR in alleged phone tapping case

HYDERABAD: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged phone tapping case has issued a notice to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao, asking him to appear for an inquiry at 11.00 IST on January 23 at the Jubilee Hills police station.

Officials said the notice was served as part of the ongoing investigation into allegations of illegal phone surveillance during the previous BRS government. The inquiry will be conducted at the Jubilee Hills police station, where the SIT has been summoning individuals connected to the case.

Former minister, MLA and senior BRS leader T Harish Rao was questioned by the SIT for over seven hours a few days ago in connection with the same probe. Investigators are examining the role of senior officials and political functionaries in the alleged surveillance.

Reports have also surfaced suggesting that BRS supremo and former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao may be questioned as the investigation progresses. There has been no official confirmation from the SIT on this so far.

Reacting to the developments, BRS leaders alleged that the notices were politically motivated. They claimed the investigation was a reaction to the party's allegations relating to the Naini coal block issue involving Congress leaders and was timed with municipal elections approaching.

"No matter how many notices you issue or how many diversions you create, we won't leave you alone and we'll keep chasing you," Harish Rao said, addressing chief minister A Revanth Reddy.

The SIT has maintained that the probe is being conducted in accordance with the law and based on available evidence.
