TAL launches TPL 2026 cricket season in London

Hyderabad: The Telugu Association of London (TAL) launched the 17th edition of the TAL Premier League (TPL) 2026 with an opening ceremony held on May 16, 2026, at the Ealing Hanwellians Cricket Grounds in Greenford, London.

The tournament, which began in 2009 as the TAL Cricket League, has grown into one of the major sporting events for the Telugu community in the United Kingdom, bringing together players, families and supporters every summer.

This year's edition features 10 teams and will run for 15 weeks. The competition includes league matches, knockout rounds, quarter-finals and semi-finals before concluding with the final on August 16, 2026, at Slough Cricket Club.

What explains over 1,000 Prajavani grievances stuck in unclear status categories?

Addressing participants and supporters at the opening ceremony, TAL chairman Ravi Sabba wished all teams success in the tournament.

He said TAL continued to play a central role in the Telugu community by organising cultural and sporting events that bring families and friends together.

Volunteers and trustees recognised for tournament efforts

Ravi Sabba thanked volunteers for their contribution to the event and acknowledged the efforts of trustee Satya Peddireddi and sports in-charge Sindhura Cheruku for coordinating teams, organisers and families.

He also thanked board of trustees members Satya Peddireddi, Ashok Madhishetty, Venkat Neela, Ravi Mocherla, Anil Ananthula and Kiran Kappeta for supporting the event.

TAL launches community fitness fundraising campaign

Alongside the cricket tournament, TAL launched a community fundraiser titled "1 Million Steps in 100 Days Challenge".

The initiative encourages participants to improve fitness and wellbeing while raising funds for Telugu charities and organisations involved in community and social causes.

The programme is being led by Venkat Thotakura, Srihari Arige, Sunitha Arige and Sindhura Cheruku.

TAL said it would continue promoting health, teamwork and community engagement through its sporting and cultural activities across the United Kingdom.
