HYDERABAD: Telangana has received the "City with Best Green Transport Initiative" award for Hyderabad, honouring its efforts in promoting sustainable mobility and electric vehicle (EV) adoption.
The award acknowledges the success of the E-Mobility and EV Charging Infrastructure Project, implemented by Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd. (TGREDCO) under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
1,000 EV chargers installed across Telangana
Under the Telangana government's guidance, TGREDCO, the state nodal agency for EV charging infrastructure, coordinated with GHMC, HMDA, TGSRTC, and DISCOMs to create an extensive charging ecosystem across Hyderabad and other districts.
Key achievements include:
Over 1,000 EV chargers facilitated statewide, 150 directly by TGREDCO.
₹35-crore project implemented under NCAP without state expenditure.
Avoidance of 552 tonnes of CO₂ and 5.57 kg of PM2.5 emissions monthly.
Onboarding of 37 charge point operators and 16,000 users on the TGEV App.
Introduction of Special EV Tariff (LT-IX) for affordable charging.
Job creation in operations, maintenance, and technical support.
Hyderabad leads in green urban mobility
Through coordinated public-private efforts, Hyderabad has become a national model for clean and inclusive urban mobility. TGREDCO reported a 329% increase in EV charging station use within nine months and a 14.9% modal shift to electric and non-motorised transport.
The corporation aims to expand to 6,000 EV charging stations by 2030 and 12,000 by 2035, guided by Telangana's EV & Energy Storage Policy (2020-2030) and Clean Energy Policy (2025). The programme also aligns with the PM e-Drive and Telangana Mobility Valley initiatives.
"Hyderabad is now a benchmark for clean transport"
TGREDCO Vice-Chairperson and Managing Director V. Anila said, "This award recognises Telangana's commitment to sustainable transport and green innovation. TGREDCO remains dedicated to advancing clean mobility and positioning Hyderabad as a benchmark for eco-friendly urban transport in India."
