TELANGANA: A 28-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh, identified as Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli, allegedly stabbed two 17-year-old boys with a metal fork aboard a Lufthansa flight from Chicago to Frankfurt on Saturday.

According to US authorities, the accused also attempted to assault cabin crew members, forcing the aircraft to divert to Boston Logan International Airport for an emergency landing.

Prosecutors from the Massachusetts District Attorney's Office said Usiripalli faces charges of attempting to injure others with a deadly weapon. He reportedly stabbed one boy in the shoulder and the other on the back of the head.

Officials added that he threatened crew members by mimicking a gun with his hand and pulling an imaginary trigger. He also allegedly slapped a woman passenger and tried to hit a crew member before being restrained.

Investigators said the accused had earlier entered the US on a student visa to pursue a master's degree but was currently staying without valid documentation. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of USD 2,50,000 (₹2.08 crore).
