HYDERABAD: A US-based critical care specialist, Dr Srinivas Mummadi, 47, has joined Hyderabad's Helping Hand Foundation (HHF) as a volunteer, in a move described as rare among Indian-origin physicians trained in the United States.

Dr Mummadi, a telemedical intensivist holding MBBS, MD and DM degrees in Pulmonary and Critical Care from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, reached out to HHF after learning about its healthcare initiatives for underprivileged communities.

To improve early detection and bedside management

According to HHF managing trustee Mujtaba Askari, Dr Mummadi will contribute to developing best practices for the early detection and evidence-based management of infectious diseases, with a focus on dengue, and snake and scorpion envenomation cases.

Designing an e-ICU model for rural hospitals

He will also assist in designing an effective electronic intensive care unit (e-ICU) system aimed at extending critical care services to remote and vulnerable hospitals across Telangana.

Askari said HHF was "excited to have him on board," noting that such volunteerism from US-trained doctors remains uncommon.
