Statement through legal counsel
Trisha issued the statement through her legal counsel. She said she "never expected such a distasteful and inappropriate remark from a person holding a high position in the State's political space."
Her counsel stated that she is not affiliated with any political party and does not intend to join one. The statement added that she has always maintained a neutral stand on politics.
Trisha said she wants people to define her by her craft, not by any alleged political link. She also urged public figures to avoid commenting on personal lives. According to the statement, people in high office must show responsibility and balance in public discourse.
Her counsel further said that no one should drag her name into matters that do not concern her.
Row over press remark
The controversy began three days ago during a press interaction. Nagenthran responded to Vijay's statement at a party meeting in Salem. Vijay had said that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) would be Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's (TVK) only challenger in the upcoming Assembly elections.
In response, Nagenthran said, "Vijay should come out of Trisha's house to gain experience." His remark drew sharp criticism from several political leaders.
Kanimozhi NVN Somu, Thamizhachi Thangapandian, and K. Selvaperunthagai condemned the comment. They described it as inappropriate and crass.
