HYDERABAD: Traffic restrictions came into force at Uppal junction from Sunday for construction works related to the Uppal-Narapally Elevated Corridor project.
Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation and traffic police officials said the curbs would remain in force for nearly three months as four major pillars have to be constructed on the Warangal highway stretch near the junction. Municipal Commissioner Vinay Krishna Reddy said traffic diversions were introduced to ease congestion during the works.
Alternative routes announced for commuters
Motorists travelling towards Warangal from Ramanthapur or Habsiguda have been advised to pass through the road behind Pista House and Little Flower School, continue via Beerappagadda Monda Market and rejoin the national highway near the electricity substation.
Vehicles travelling towards Warangal through Uppal crossroads from Nagole or LB Nagar have been advised to avoid the junction and instead use the Outer Ring Road or service road near Pedda Amberpet through Hayathnagar before rejoining the Warangal highway at Ghatkesar.
Commuters travelling from Peerzadiguda to Nagole can use the Uppal Bhagayat Layout road opposite Asian Mall after descending the Nallacheruvu bund road and continue till the Musi river bridge in Nagole.
Vehicles heading towards Secunderabad from Peerzadiguda have been advised to take the Lakshmi Reddy Colony road nearly 200 metres before Uppal junction and proceed towards Nagole road near Uppal Metro station before taking a U-turn towards Secunderabad.
Motorists travelling from Nagole to Warangal road can take a U-turn below Nagole Metro station and continue through Uppal Bhagayat Layout before joining the national highway near Nallacheruvu.
Officials clarified that there are no restrictions for vehicles travelling from Habsiguda towards Nagole through Uppal junction.
₹675 crore elevated corridor under construction
The Central government is constructing a 6.2-km elevated corridor from Uppal junction to Narapally at a cost of ₹675 crore. The six-lane flyover will terminate before Uppal crossroads.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is separately constructing a 1.4-km, six-lane flyover from Uppal junction to DSL Mall at a cost of ₹311 crore. Two additional flyovers planned at Uppal junction are also part of the project.
Officials said four major pillars are required at the junction for the flyover being constructed towards Ramanthapur as a continuation of the Central government project.
