HYDERABAD: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Telangana, including Hyderabad.

It has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls on February 23, 2026.

According to the IMD, light to moderate rain is very likely at isolated places across the state.

The alert covers Mancherial, Medak, Kamareddy, Sangareddy, Nizamabad, Nirmal, and Adilabad districts. Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy are also on alert.

In its weather bulletin, the IMD said, "Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are very likely at isolated places in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, and Nagarkurnool districts of Telangana."

Amid the adverse weather conditions, students and parents are awaiting clarity. They want to know whether the state government will order the closure of educational institutions as a precaution.

As of now, the government has made no official announcement on the closure of schools or colleges.

Authorities have advised residents, especially students, to avoid stepping out unless necessary. Students may use the time for self-study or other productive activities at home.
